I received a Free ARC copy from Edelweiss in return for a fair review.
4 out of 5 stars.
For some strange reason, I actually enjoyed this one more than the first in the series. The characters seem more established and the genre pairing of fantasy and mystery seems to meld together a bit more fluidly. The world that Gail Carson Levine has built in this series is very characteristic of her: Taking a fairy tale/ fantasy world and twisting it just enough to still be magical and innovative, but not enough that it is completely foreign. Reading her works is like being a child again and being read “Cinderella” and “Beauty and the Beast” for the first time. Wonderous and enchanting. I also love the idea of a detective dragon. That right there would pull me in, even if I did not already adore this author.
